old timey woodcut artwork with a skull on a stack of books

This is the master library of all my link collections -- right now, I have 250+ unique links on everything from harm reduction to worldbuilding. Everything here will continue to be updated.

what kind of links do I choose? really, anything: software, reference guides, databases or websites with something useful about them. I have no hard criteria for what products and services I recommend, but I prioritize:
  • free or fairly-priced over prohibitively expensive or forced subscription models
  • locally hosted over cloud-based storage
  • independent creators over large corporations
  • open source over closed source
  • human, made, hand-coded work over AI
this is not to say that every link is going to be free and open source (FOSS for short), AND independently created, AND 100% AI-free, AND absolutely awesome. That being said, I take a lot of care that all of my links meet at least some of these marks without glaring issues. And, many of them do hit all of the marks! I try to choose resources that you might not have heard of before, especially as alternatives to more popular, yet more flawed programs or websites for the same thing. Sometimes there is no perfect solution and I'm just suggesting what I think is the best option available to us right now.

why is link hell a thing? to support small creators! the whole point of my blog is to create a space for myself as an artist as independent from corporate influence as possible and i want to help others do the same! i'm used to working on a low to no budget with any of the art that I do, as well as having to find my own guides to teach myself, so i've gotten pretty resourceful in finding sites that helped me along. as such, I really wanted to collect resources that are free or at least inexpensive to purchase, respect your data and don't use what you create to feed AI, and most importantly, help you make cool shit! essentially, I want link hell to be a centralized place that supports indie artists and creators in 2 ways: having the stuff they make recommended, so it can get even better, and to give helpful resources to other artists who need them.

disclaimer!

look, I do my best but this is never gonna be perfect. to get it out of the way:

- some links are probably dead. I've provided archive links to ones I know have been iffy in the past or have a higher likelihood of going offline. if a site has moved or died and you have the time, send me a message on neocities!

- I test most of the software on my own devices before adding it, but I have not used them all extensively and can't give detailed information.

- a lot of the indie software is created by like 1 or maybe 2 people so it's not as streamlined as the Big Tech version. it might even be in beta. please don't cry about it tho

- I obviously can't vouch for every creator and community these links have come from. I've tried to weed out those known to be dicks, though.
